Preserving Opened Wine
Friday, September 25, 2009 at 1:36PM Most everyone knows that after you open a bottle of wine, oxygen in the air we breath begins the process of turning it into vinegar. How long this takes can vary depending on the type of wine and the conditions. The products I'm going to highlight will change those conditions to allow the wine to be enjoyable longer. The first of these is called Private Preserve. Typically air flows into a bottle when you pop the cork. Simply reinserting the cork will prevent a continuous flow of
oxygen from entering the bottle and thus slow the oxidation of the contents. But the oxygen already inside will be enough to age the contents unless you spray in some Private Preserve. It replaces the air in the bottle with a balanced mixture of three gases we naturally breathe (Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen and Argon). Private Preserve differs from fresh air because of what it lacks, oxygen and impurities. One can of Private Preserve lasts for 120 full uses.
The Epic Wine Savor™ preservation system is another tool for preserving your wine. After a bottle is opened, insert the specially designed stopper into bottle and pump with the Epic Wine Savor to remove damaging oxygen. When the pump is released, the unique stopper will automatically seal the bottle. The easy-release button on top of stopper makes removal a breeze. Ruth-Anne's carries the pump/stopper combination and replacement stoppers.
So why would you want to preserve wine you ask? Well, you may not decide if you will “finish the bottle” until you pour the last glass. You may drink only one glass and save the rest for another time. Or, you may drink most of a bottle and save only one glass. Either way, with the above products you can be confident that every glass you save will still be delicious.
